78 units of blood collected. 234 lives impacted.
Our 3rd Annual blood drive of 2023 hosted by the New York Blood Center was a success!
Thank you to our donors and supporters for continuing to come out and donate blood products. You are helping to save lives and make a difference in our community! Life-saving blood products can only come from volunteer donors like you. Helping patients in our local hospitals fight their battles.
Special thank you to the New York Blood Center staff, and Mike Sharinn Photography for their services, and Jersey Mike’s Subs in Commack for donating delicious cookies for our donors.
Blood donations are a critical resource in the fight against cancer, particularly pediatric cancer which is often very aggressive. During Daniela’s treatment, she received countless blood transfusions which gave her body the strength to fight. Donors like you gave Daniela the precious gift of time: Time to spend with friends and family, time to play, and time to be a kid between treatments. Before she left us, Daniela beat cancer four times, and she couldn’t have done it without the generosity of local blood donors.
Before a patient can receive life-saving
treatments like chemotherapy or radiation, they must have certain levels of healthy blood counts. Blood and platelet transfusions before and between rounds of treatment are essential to a patient’s fight and survival, as transfusions replenish their supply of healthy blood. The need for blood doesn’t stop at treatments either, as transfusions also help cancer patients in recovery. The fight against pediatric cancer truly relies on the community of individuals willing to donate their time and blood.
“I donate in honor of Daniela because witnessing her go through years of treatment showed me how vital blood transfusions are for pediatric cancer patients like her. Donating blood is an opportunity to help these kids in a special way. It’s a quick and easy process for us, but can be life-saving for patients. I love that I can help to carry out her legacy by donating blood to kids like her.” - Amanda Lee
If you missed our March blood drive, you can still make a blood donation to help those who are fighting pediatric cancer and other diseases that require blood transfusions.
